Together
for flute, violin, and piano
Op. 8 (2016)

This piece was written as a wedding gift to my good friends Ben and Christie, who got married the summer of 2016. Ben and I were roommates at Luther College, and we sang in choir together, played in orchestra, started a barbershop quartet, and also founded the Ekklesia Trio with my brother, Isak. Ben is a terrific violinist and teacher and Christie is a terrific flutist and mom to their daughter, Miriam.

The piece is based on a passage from Colossians where the Apostle Paul admonishes believers to "put on love, which binds...together in perfect harmony." The piece uses motifs related to earlier verses, and the motif for love holds the music together.
